One of the questions we are asked most often is:
"How do you choose your Tantra practitioners?"
It's an important question. Receiving a Tantra massage requires trust, vulnerability, and the confidence that you are in the hands of someone who is not only technically skilled, but also emotionally mature, grounded, and genuinely committed to the wellbeing of others.
Many people assume that becoming a Tantra practitioner simply requires learning a massage sequence. In our experience, this couldn't be further from the truth.
At Journey Within, our selection and training process has been developed over more than eight years of working with thousands of clients in Berlin. While every practitioner brings their own personality and gifts, we have learned that exceptional practitioners share a number of qualities that can be carefully assessed, cultivated, and continuously developed.

We Hire the Person Before We Hire the Tantra Practitioner
Technical skills can be taught, practised, and perfected.
Sensitivity, presence, integrity, empathy, and self-awareness are much harder to teach.
For this reason, our recruitment process focuses first on who someone is—their level of emotional maturity, integrity, and transpersonal development—rather than the certificates or trainings they already hold.
We look for people who naturally embody qualities such as:
Emotional maturity
Clear communication
Respect for personal boundaries
Compassion without rescuing
Calmness under pressure
The ability to remain present with another person's emotions
A non-judgemental attitude
Sensitivity to subtle energetic shifts
Curiosity and a genuine willingness to keep learning
Having studied Tantra and dedicated a significant amount of time to its practice is essential to joining our team. Yet it is equally important that a person is committed to their own ongoing self-development and spiritual practice.
In our experience, practitioners are able to support others most effectively when they have committed to their own healing journey. Years of massage experience are certainly valuable, but they are not enough on their own. We are interested in how deeply a person has engaged with their own inner work, self-awareness, and spiritual development.
We also value practitioners who bring experience from other professional fields—such as coaching, psychology, yoga, healthcare, education, or the arts—as these backgrounds often enrich the quality of their work with clients.
A Multi-Step Selection Process for Tantra Practicioner at Journey Within
Joining our team is not simply a matter of sending a CV.
At Journey Within Berlin, every practitioner is trained in our own methodology, developed over many years by Dr. Paula Strakos through thousands of client sessions, practitioner supervision, and continuous refinement.
The Journey Within Tantra Massage Method combines principles and techniques inspired by traditional Tantra Massage (as taught by Andro), Tantra Bodywork (as taught by Nhanga), Body Psychotherapy, and Energy Work. Above all, it places a strong emphasis on informed consent, a therapeutic attitude, the mind-body connection, trauma awareness, and grounded, accessible communication.
For this reason, every practitioner at Journey Within is required to complete our internal training programme, regardless of their previous experience.
In addition, applicants move through several stages designed to help us understand both their practical abilities and their personal qualities.
This process typically includes:
Participation in our Journey Within Tantra Massage Training
Personal interviews
Practical feedback massages with several experienced members of our team
Receiving multiple sessions from our experienced practitioners
Discussions around ethics, professionalism, and boundaries
Ongoing mutual feedback throughout the selection process
We also want candidates to understand us.
Professional Tantra practice requires emotional responsibility, teamwork, humility, and a commitment to continuous self-development. We therefore ensure that expectations are clear on both sides before someone joins our institute.
Professional Training Is About Much More Than Massage
People often imagine Tantra massage as learning specific techniques.
While technique is certainly important, it is only one component of becoming a skilled practitioner.
Our internal training covers areas including:
Presence
Clients consistently tell us that what affects them most is not a particular stroke or technique—it is the experience of feeling truly seen, accepted, and safe.
Learning to remain present without trying to fix, impress, or perform is one of the most valuable skills a practitioner can develop.
Communication
Clear communication creates safety.
Practitioners learn how to explain sessions, answer questions openly, discuss boundaries, and ensure informed consent throughout the client journey.
Professional Boundaries
Professional Tantra is fundamentally different from sexual services.
Our practitioners are trained to maintain clear professional boundaries that protect both the client and the practitioner.
These boundaries create the safety necessary for genuine relaxation, emotional openness, and personal growth.
Trauma Awareness
Many of us carry stress, grief, shame, or difficult life experiences within their bodies and nervous systems.
Our work is not psychotherapy, nor do we claim to treat trauma. However, practitioners benefit greatly from understanding how emotional experiences influence the body and nervous system, and from knowing how to respond with care, presence, respect, and appropriate professional boundaries when emotions arise during a session.
The Therapeutic Relationship
One of the most important qualities of an excellent practitioner is the ability to establish genuine rapport with clients, helping them feel safe enough to explore their inner world.
This means being able to hold the complexity of human experience with openness and compassion. Within a therapeutic setting, we rarely see experiences as simply "right" or "wrong." Instead, we seek to meet whatever arises with curiosity, honesty, and non-judgement.
In our experience, it is this atmosphere of acceptance that allows clients to release shame, recognise unconscious patterns, reconnect with themselves, and create meaningful, lasting change in their lives.
Acceptance is one of the guiding principles of Tantra and lies at the heart of our work.
Continuous Feedback
Training does not end after the first weeks.
Practitioners continue receiving supervision, peer feedback, mentoring, team exchanges, and opportunities for further education.
Learning is an ongoing process.
Every Tantra Practitioner Brings Their Own Style
One of the strengths of our team is that no two practitioners are identical.
Some clients naturally prefer a calm and meditative atmosphere.
Others resonate more with someone who brings warmth, playfulness, or gentle encouragement.
Rather than creating identical practitioners, our goal is to help each person develop their own authentic professional style while maintaining the same high standards of ethics, safety, and quality.
Why This Matters for Clients
Choosing a Tantra practitioner can feel overwhelming, especially if it is your first session.
We believe clients deserve transparency about who is working with them and how those practitioners have been prepared.
Our screening and training process reflects the values that guide every aspect of Journey Within:
Professionalism
Respect
Compassion
Personal responsibility
Continuous learning
Client safety
These values shape every session we offer.

Our Commitment
Professional Tantra is a field that needs high standards in order to remain safe, ethical, and respected.
We are proud of the care we invest in selecting, supporting, and developing our practitioners because we know that the quality of a session depends not only on technique, but on the person offering it.
When you book a session at Journey Within, you are meeting someone who has been carefully selected, thoughtfully trained, and supported within a professional community committed to providing safe, respectful, and meaningful experiences.
