Something draws you toward it.
Maybe you’ve received a tantra massage and want to understand the practice more deeply. Maybe you’ve been reading about tantra for years and feel ready to step in. Maybe someone you trust mentioned a workshop and something in you said — yes. Not yet. But yes.
And then the questions come. What actually happens in a tantra workshop? Will I be expected to do things I’m not comfortable with? Who else will be there? Is this for me?
This article answers those questions honestly. Not to sell you on anything. But because you deserve to know what you’re stepping into before you decide.

What a tantra workshop is not
Let’s clear this up first.
A tantra workshop is not a group sex event. It is not an orgy with spiritual branding. It is not a place where you will be pressured into anything physical with anyone.
This needs saying because tantra is so consistently misrepresented — online, in media, in casual conversation — that many people arrive at Journey Within carrying a wariness that makes complete sense, given what they’ve been led to believe.
The tantra workshops we offer are trauma-informed, consent-based, and guided by experienced practitioners. They are spaces of genuine inquiry — into the body, into sensation, into how we relate to ourselves and others. Sensuality might be more or less present depending on the topic of the Workshop. Tantra is so much more than only working with sexaul energy.
What happens in them is sometimes surprising, unexpected, deeply moving and even transformative. But you will never be coerced to do somthing you do not want to do. What we usually tell people is that we do want them to step out of their comfort zone, but not so far out that you go into freeze, fight or flight and feel like you need to protect yourself/close down.
What tantra actually is
Tantra is an ancient tradition rooted in the principle that the body is not an obstacle to presence — it is the doorway.
Where many spiritual paths ask you to transcend the physical, tantra says: go through it. Feel more, not less. Be in the body, not above it. Use your direct lived experience, sensation, emotions and breath as tools for awareness, inner-guidance and connection.
At Journey Within, we work with a modern, therapeutic and trauma-informed approach to tantra. This means the ancient principles — presence, meditation, non-duality — are held within a contemporary understanding of the nervous system, consent, and somatic healing.
A tantra workshop, in this context, is a structured space to learn and experience these principles directly. Not just to understand them intellectually — but have a direct experience of them. Never believe anything that is said to you about tantra, but go and do your own experiences and make up your mind based on that. In tantra you are your own guru.
What happens in a tantra workshop at Journey Within
Our tantra workshops in Berlin range from short events that last a few hours, like the Women's Circle and Practice Evening. Urban Workshops take place in Berlin and over 2.5/3 days and Nature Retreats that last over 4 days.
For the Urban Workshops and Nature Retreats, there is a short video call with one of the Facilitatores. It is a conversation — a chance for us to understand what you’re looking for, answer any questions, and make sure the workshop is a genuine fit for where you are right now.
The opening
Every workshop begins with arrival. With welcome. With time to settle into the space and into the group. There is a circle — an opportunity to be seen, to introduce yourself, to say what you’re bringing. And to meet the other people that will go throug hthis journey with you.
Many people come in not knowing anyone. That is completely normal. The group tends to find its warmth quickly. Something about shared intention, about choosing to be here, creates a particular quality of connection.
The body of the workshop
Over the course of the weekend, you will move through a range of practices. These vary by workshop level and theme, but typically include:
Connecting with the Breath. Learning to use the breath as a tool for presence, grounding, and accessing deeper layers of sensation.
Somatic and embodiment practices — movement, stillness, and exercises that help you arrive more fully in your body.
Emotional release work — held space for what arises when the body begins to soften and open.
Energy work — sensing and working with the body’s energetic field.
Group sharing and integration — time to process, to speak, to be witnessed.
Nothing is obligatory. Everything is an invitation. You participate at the level that feels right for you. Your boundaries are yours to hold, and they are always respected.
The closing
The end of a workshop is as important as the beginning. We close in circle. There is time to integrate, to reflect, to speak what has moved through you — or to simply sit in the quiet of what is settling.
Many people describe the closing as one of the most tender parts of the whole experience.

Who is a tantra workshop for?
Our workshops in Berlin are open to individuals and couples, to people with no tantra experience and to those who have been practising for years.
People come for many different reasons:
A desire to connect with the body deeper.
Curiosity about tantra that has been sitting quietly for a long time.
A wish to deepen intimacy — with a partner, or with oneself or with others.
A sense that something is blocked — in the body, in relationships, in the ability to feel pleasure freely.
A hunger for community. For a space where real things are welcomed.
A wish to learn tantra massage — to bring this quality of touch into life and relationships.
Simply — a feeling that it is time.
All genders, all orientations, all body types are welcome. Our workshops are held in English. No prior experience with tantra is needed for most of them.
What you might take home
This is harder to predict than what you will do. The body has its own wisdom about what it needs, and every person’s experience is different.
What people often describe:
A sense of inhabiting the body differently. More space. More aliveness.
Something softening that had been held tightly for a long time.
A changed relationship to touch — giving it, receiving it, asking for it.
New language for things that had no words before.
Connections with others that feel unusually real.
A quieter mind. Not empty — just less insistent.
A feeling of coming home to something they didn’t know they had left.
Sometimes people report feeling "high", having a hightned perception for colors and life in general.
As one participant wrote: “I think the core of this work is to facilitate getting into contact to places within myself that I didn’t imagine before, and by that, I wake up as the main character in my healing process.“
The tantra workshops we offer in Berlin
At Journey Within, we offer several different workshop formats:
Tantra massage workshops — Level 1, 2 and 3
Our signature weekend workshops teach the art and principles of tantra massage — from the foundations of conscious touch and breath, through to yoni and lingam massage, de-armouring, and emotional release work. Each level builds on the last. Many people return again and again — not only because there is always more to learn, but because the community that forms around this work becomes something they want to stay connected to.
A monthly gathering for women to connect with their bodies, release what is no longer serving, and explore somatic and tantric practices. A smaller format than the weekend workshops — and a beautiful way to begin.
A seasonal gathering for women to come together go deeper in connect with their bodies, release what is no longer serving, and nourish their sense of sensuality, power, and belonging. As well as an oportunity to rest in nature and with the support of sisterhood.
For couples: Either a Private workshop or a longer Retreat in Portugal
A tailored half-day workshop for couples who want to explore tantra together. An introduction to tantric touch, presence and intimacy — in a private setting, guided at your own pace. Or a 5 day workshop in beautiful nature to go deeper and nurture the body, the soul and the relationship.
Tantric therapy training
A professional training for those who want to integrate tantra techniques into a therapeutic or coaching practice. Held over three long weekend blocks.
Is a tantra workshop in Berlin right for you right now?
A tantra workshop asks something of you. Not performance, not expertise — but a genuine willingness to show up. To be in the body. To let something move.
It is right for you if you come with honest curiosity, with respect for others’ experience, and with a readiness to be surprised by your own.
It may not be the right moment if you are in an acute mental health crisis, if you are looking for something primarily sexual, or if you are not yet able to maintain your own boundaries within a group setting. In any of these cases, we would be glad to speak with you and help you find what might be a better fit.
If you are unsure — reach out. We always offer a short video-call with one of the Faciliators so you can get to know wach other, clarify any question ans feel if this is the right choice for you. Then you will know.
A final thought
The workshops that have stayed with people the longest — the ones they come back to tell us about months later — are rarely the ones where everything went smoothly.
They are the ones where something real happened. Where they felt something they had been carrying for years finally move. Where they looked across a room at strangers who had become, in the space of a weekend, something closer to witnesses.
That is what a tantra workshop in Berlin can be, when the space is held well.
We are committed to hold it carefully.
You can find our upcoming workshop dates here. If you have questions before booking, you are welcome fill out the online booking form. We look forward to hearing from you.
With warmth,
Dr. Paula Strakos and the Journey Within Team
